Halo Loves!

I hope you are all doing well this Sunday. Today i dedicate this post to my country DRC considering it is our 53rd Anniversary :) yeeey! Considering most of what we have been hearing about DRC has been wars and all, today i decided to talk about the good things in my country that may educate us on one or two things.

Located in Central Africa, DRC shares an extremely long border with the Republic of Congo, Central African Republic, Sudan, Uganda, Rwanda, Burundi, Tanzania, Zambia and Angola. Largely landlocked, the DRC depends on the mighty Congo River for transportation and livelihood.

"As Africa's third largest country, the Democratic Republic of the Congo boasts 905,356 square miles (2,344,872 square kilometers), including deep forests, the famous Ruwenzori mountain range, the Central Basin, the Highland Plateau, beautiful rivers, cities, villages, and mining towns. Kinshasa is the capital and largest city in the Democratic Republic of the Congo." More info here

My country's culture is extremely diverse thus reflecting the great diversity and different customs which exist in the country. We have around 250 languages spoken through the county. The most common languages include French (official language spoken by 80% on Congolese), Lingala, Kingwana (a dialect of Swahili or Kiswahili), and Tshiluba.

A proper greeting is to shake hands with the right hand. To show respect of social status people hold their right forearm with their left hand while shaking hands. Men often share a touching of the sides of their foreheads, first right than left. I always find it fascinating when i watch my dad greet his fellow friends or family members.

DRC is home to a vast potential of natural resources and mineral wealth.

I could go on and on about my country. As for my outfit today, i am wearing the kitenge which is our traditional fabric. The picture below is of me dressed the traditional way a Congolese woman dresses up. (A top and two wrappers).  Clearly i love my motherland and i am proud to be Congolese.

Happy Anniversary my country and cheers to better years to come.
