kitengecoat7

Happy new week guys!

How time flies and here we are approaching the holidays. I am so excited to have a long break away from work. I cant wait to sit back and connect with my family and friends who i have not seen in a while.

Today i am wearing this kitenge coat my mother made me (thank God for her! Love you mum!). I have worn it before in the blog but dint get  to show it properly. I like the simplicity of the coat and it can be dressed up formally or casually. I decided to pair it with a tank top and jeans for a simple look at work.

Stripes on Skinnies

skinny:stripes4

Hi guys!

Been a minute and i feel so much has happened since i last posted. I was having minor challenges with my blog and posting anything was almost impossible...but thanks to Francisca for the technical help with my blog. By the way you need to pop into her blog, she is a lady with great style, check out her blog HERE i love her style and how she plays around with pattern and fabrics.

I wore this on one of the cold days and its a simple yet comfortable outfit. I like the stripes on the cardigan which i toned down with a jersey on top. I believe as much as someone wants to be stylish, it is ok to experiment, play around patterns and fabrics until you find something that works for you.

Forever Thankful

Hi good people!

I hope you have been having a great week. I have been meaning to post a while back but i am having challenges with my blog which made me scream my head off LOL! HAPPY BIRTHDAY BECKY!!!

Today we all celebrate the birthday of our lovely sister Becky (a.k.a. my Bea 2/ doror) .... How lovely it has been seeing you grow year to year.

Miss the lovely times we had. You were my partner in crime, my shoulder to lean on, my late night marathon movie buddy, my baby girl/doror :) I just love u Becky.

I pray that as u are now sweet 16, you may be able to stand as a God fearing girl despite the winds of pressure to conform that will blow to you. You are wise and beautiful and do not need anyone to define who you are. Stand your ground and know we are the soldiers behind you praying for you and ready to get in any battle with you and for you. Remember how we stood with you when haters came your way, and we are still here standing with you.

We celebrate you on this day and we know God has a lot stored up for you. Keep trusting HIM and walking in HIS ways.

PS: the net has disappointed me, had so many lovely pics to share but oh well, this should work.

Bonne Anniversaire la belle!

Beaucoup des bisous...

Kitenge Peplum

Hi guys!

Been a while since i had time to post anything. Its been such a busy week as i have been in a long training at work. Quite intense yet educative and enjoyable.

How has your week been guys?

Anyway, today's outfit is about my peplum kitenge top. How i love infusing my culture in what i wear. It makes me feel authentic and proud of my roots. In a previous post HERE, i mentioned my love for peplums which have become a major trend. So far i have been working on acquiring some pieces in my wardrobe and will share pictures with you in future.

What are your thoughts on this trend? feel free to share them with me.

Have a great weekend.

I hope you are all having a great day. If not, smile and know tomorrow will be better.

The Leso

Happy New month guys!

I hope you are fine. It has been such a cold and rainy week and it seems hurricane Sandy has come to Africa :( Its all wet and muddy and i prefer sticking in my house having a hot cup of cinnamon tea.

I took these pictures a day ago when the sun was shinning for few hours before the rain took over. I am wearing a top made out of the fabric widely known in Eastern Africa as leso or kanga. As usual, i bought this fabric a while back and i decided to make it useful in my wardrobe. I came up with this dress top with pockets in front which is one comfortable item i own.

Something very unique about lesos is that they all have a proverb or a saying imprinted on them. As a garment, therefore, the leso can be said to be culturally loaded because of the adage it bears. The messages in the lesos quite often carry a lot of wisdom and thought hence they convey a profound meaning both to the wearer and the viewer. Now for my case, my apologies for the top i wore covered the writings on my leso top ( without my notice), but i will be wearing the top again in future and will share the message in Swahili and the meaning.

I have currently seen many designers (Afican and International) incorporating the leso in their collections which i like such as LaLesso (see their website HERE), Chichia (see their website HERE) amongst others.

The Lesos will definitely go down in the annals of the history as a fashion statement of the ladies of East Africa from mid nineteenth century to the present day.

Have a great day!
